Arabica Coffee Recovers Early Losses on Reduced Rain Chances in Brazil

September arabica coffee (KCU24) on Friday closed up +0.45 (+0.20%), and Sep ICE robusta coffee (RMU24) closed down -36 (-0.89%).

Coffee prices on Friday settled mixed, with arabica falling to a 2-week low and robusta dropping to a 1-week low.  A slumping Brazilian real (^USDBRL) undercut coffee prices as the real Friday fell to a 2-1/2 year low against the dollar, encouraging export sales from Brazil's coffee producers.  However, arabica recovered its losses Friday and moved higher after weather forecasts called for limited rain in Brazil's coffee-growing regions next week, sparking short-covering in arabica coffee futures.

A faster pace of Brazil's coffee harvest is boosting coffee supplies and is bearish for prices after Safras & Mercado on Friday reported that Brazil's 2024/25 coffee harvest was 50% completed as of June 25, faster than 45% last year at the same time and faster than the 5-year average of 47%.
